Shameless Addendum

January 30 – March 13, 2022

Opening Sunday 30 January, 16.00 hrs by Charles Esche, director of the Van Abbe Museum in Eindhoven

Simultaneously with his impressive exhibition ‘Shameless’ in The Wolfsonian-FIU in Miami Beach, Bas van Beek will show at Galerie VIVID in Rotterdam additional ‘shameless’ works.

“Looking back at our historical heritage, Van Beek brings to life credited and anonymous designs. By reshaping and improving them using new materials and techniques, he is ‘shameless’ in his provocative approach that goes beyond time, genre and geographic boundaries. He never hides his source of inspiration; on the contrary, it becomes part of his creation.”
Silvia Barisione, Wolfsonian Museum, Miami Beach

The Dutch designer Bas van Beek, best known for his pieces that “reverse engineer” unrealised archival designs, works to revive and improve designs that have been lost to history. His first US exhibition, Shameless at the Wolfsonian-FIU, (November 29, 2021–April 24, 2022) features works that respond to the Wolfsonian’s vast collection, such as a design for a porcelain coffee service by Frank Lloyd Wright that was never made and a tapestry that amalgamates various gridded patterns by the little-known German designer Wilhelm Poetter.
